Key facts and family background
Georg Johann Heinrich Friemann was a farmer, merchant, and farm owner in Altenbochum. During the farm fire of 1833, his mother Anna Maria Elisabeth Mummenhoff saved the old records and charters from destruction. In 1835 he married Maria Clementine Dahm, a merchant’s daughter from Bochum. They had six children; Maria Clementine and two daughters died in 1848.

Georg lost his father in 1813 at the age of fifteen. His mother Anna Maria Elisabeth Mummenhoff remained the family’s central figure until 1844. According to the family chronicle, when the Friemann farm burned in 1833, she gathered the important papers and charters in her apron and escaped through a window. Her action preserved central evidence of the farm and family history.
Maria Clementine came from a Bochum merchant family. After their marriage in 1835, the couple lived in Altenbochum. Their six children linked the farming tradition with the new occupations of the following generation.
Maria Clementine died in 1848 at the age of thirty-six, probably during or shortly after childbirth. The young daughters Clementine and Auguste also died that year. The chronicle places these losses within the limited medical care and epidemic conditions of the period.
In the chronicle, Georg and Maria Clementine represent the last generation to operate the family property mainly as a farm. Their sons Franz and Heinrich Wilhelm then embodied two paths: continuing the estate and entering urban enterprise.
